Free Post: Thanksgiving Day

One of my favorite times of the year, Thanksgiving. My day started off with waking up to the smell of turkey and all kinds of other foods. I went downstairs into the kitchen where my mom was cooking. She made me go back upstairs because I had to take a shower and get dressed and stuff. When I came back down I talked to my family and watched football until dinner was ready.      As the day went by, my God Family visited to come spend the day at our house. We ate and then sat around the table and talked. Then we played some bored games and chilled. We watched more football and caught up with each other. It was a great day.

Thesis Statement Context

Thesis Statement:      Piggy is constantly ignored and detached from the group, suggesting he is irrelevant and not taken seriously because of his appearance and personality even though he has good ideas. Context:  "Then," 'went on Piggy,' "that boy--I forget--" "You're talking too much," 'said Jack Merridew.' "Shut up, Fatty." Laughter arose      This is just one of many examples showing how no one takes what Piggy says seriously and just brushes it off and ignores him. He was about to say something that was important to the situation, but then Jack just shut him up and ignored what he was about to say. He also calls him a fatty, suggesting the reason he is irrelevant is because of who he is. Luckily Ralph backs Piggy up.

Page 91 Passage

The world, that understandable and lawful world, was slipping away.  Once there was this and that; and now--and the ship had gone. [... Jack refusing to give Piggy the floor when he has the conch...] "The rules!" shouted Ralph.  "You're breaking the rules!" "Who cares?" Ralph summoned his wits. "Because the rules are the only thing we've got!" But Jack was shouting against him. "Bollocks to the rules!  We're strong--we hunt!  If there's a beast, we'll hunt it down!  We'll close in and beat and beat and beat--!" (91)      This passage is very symbolic to the relationship between Jack and Ralph and Piggy in LOTF to me. First of all, it's one of the most  memorable times in the book, when the ship passes by and they don't get saved. This is the main breaking point where everything goes to chaos and a lot of the slanders lose hope. Then we move on to Jack disrespecting Piggy as usual. He won't let Piggy

Symbolism

There was once a man named Mike that lived in Northern Canada. He was not used to the quiet and small amount of people in Canada, since he grew up in New York City. He moved to Canada when he was twenty-seven for a job that payed him a lot of money. Before he moved, he spent time with his family in New York as a fare well. Him and his family went to Central Park, hung around the city lights, and did other typical stuff you can only do in New York.      Before he left, his mom had to give him something to remember New York by. She made him a neckless with a sky scraper and the statue of liberty on it. Those were two things he wouldn't be seeing much of in Canada. As he left he grew very sad and missed New York and his family very much. But, on the bright side, he would always have that beautiful necklace. Symbols: Sky Scraper and Statue of Liberty Necklace. Symbolism: This symbol was used to remind him of where he came from, New York City. His mom gave the necklace to h

Vocab Post

For a month in the summer, I visited California with my family. We saw a bunch of different parts of California. We saw different types of people throughout the trip. For a minute part of the trip, we visited Compton. It was even worse in real life.      There was a lot of gang activity. The place had a lot of vice activity. I've never seen a place so dangerous and crime filled. People there are in poverty and need a lot of help. Hopefully in the future I can help... Vocabulary Words: Minute- for a short period of time Vice-criminal activity

Post 1: Jack

As we have read LOTF, one character I've paid close attention to is Jack. The kid is such a jerk. I get they are on a island stranded and may die, but there is no need to be a jerk. He is especially a jerk to Piggy. He constantly calls him fat and other things, and Piggy doesn't appreciate it.      This makes me wonder if Jack might have had a rough life at home before the plane crash. Were his parents abusive? Maybe something else is wrong, but I don't know. He could just be a straight up jerk. It is definitely something I'll look more into throughout the rest of the book.
