PH Reading Response

     If there is one character I have payed close attention to and also feel very bad for, it is Kambili. She is not only constantly abused and beaten by her father, but she has no social life and friends. Once school is over, her social life is non-existent. There is one instant in the book where Kambili and Jaja are examining a painting as Papa walks in. It is interesting to me, because as soon as Kambili is being social, her dad unnecessarily beats her and ruins it.

     As Papa rips up the painting, Kambili freaks out and lays by it. Papa grows furious. "'Get up! Get away from that painting!"' "I lay there, did nothing." "'Get up!"' "Papa said again. I still did not move. He started to kick me. The metal buckets on his slippers stung like bites from giant mosquitos." Here we can see that Papa is not happy with the situation as it escalates quickly. I feel bad because Kambili gets brutally beaten in a social instance that she was enjoying before Papa got there. Will she ever have a good life?

What are you grateful for?

     As I grow older and the years go by, I notice more and more how good I have it. My parents have worked really hard to give me the life I have. I am grateful for the fact that I am able to go to an extremely expensive and great private school, a thing a lot of kids can't say. I have always gone to private schools with good education and staff, making my learning experience better than a lot.      Another thing I am grateful for are my friends and family. Anytime I need people to hang out with or talk to I can go to my friends and family. They are both always there for me no matter what. Imagine how boring life would be without friends. Imagine how unstable and bad life would be without family. They are two very great things.

Strengths and Challenges

     As writers, we all have our strengths and challenges. From quotations to organization, people do some things well and they do others bad. As a writer his year I've noticed that I am pretty good at coining together quotations, citing them correctly with the write format, and using the most effective quote I can. I noticed this in the research paper when I had my conference with Dr D. She said that I embedded my quotes really well and that I used pretty effective quotes as well. But, I didn't have the greatest feedback on everything...      One thing I struggled with as a writer this year is my organization. I haven't always been able to put all my thoughts onto a paper while also being able to organize them correctly and put everything in the right spot. Back to my research paper, I didn't put all of my categories in the most effects spots possible for them. I didn't coin them together super well, which was a problem. Free Post: Thanksgiving Day

     One of my favorite times of the year, Thanksgiving. My day started off with waking up to the smell of turkey and all kinds of other foods. I went downstairs into the kitchen where my mom was cooking. She made me go back upstairs because I had to take a shower and get dressed and stuff. When I came back down I talked to my family and watched football until dinner was ready.      As the day went by, my God Family visited to come spend the day at our house. We ate and then sat around the table and talked. Then we played some bored games and chilled. We watched more football and caught up with each other. It was a great day.
