Dialogue

"How ya doing', Mr. Brown?," asked Mr Jo "Good.," stated Mr Brown. Mr Jo then questioned, "Where were you three nights ago, May 25th at 8:02 P.M.?" Mr Brown answered, "I was at the movie theater seeing that new movie, IT." "You sure about that?," wondered Mr Jo. "Yes sir. I have pictures to prove. There ya go.," said Mr Brown. Mr Jo then exclaimed, "How do I know this ain't photoshopped?!" Mr Brown then exclaimed, "It's obviously not!" "We're done here.," said Mr Brown.

Personal Narrative Update

I am excited for the process ahead of us in writing our personal narratives. I am ready to see what my final draft will look and sound like, this being my first personal narrative I have eber written. But, I think I'm struggling with a few things. I have trouble expressing my voice, personality, and feelings/thoughts onto paper. Those are very important to narratives.      I also wonder if my paper is descriptive and has good detail and is easy to read. Hopefully so, because I think it is. I think to myself and wonder, how can I express my feelings and thoughts more? How exactly do I have good voice for my paper? What other things do I need to work on? Hopefully I can work on all of these things successfully to have a good paper.

Dear 12 Year Old

Dear 12 year old, don't stress over middle school. It's basically elementary school but just middle school. The work is easy and it's not as bad as you think. Try to get good at sports and focus on things that you can do in life. Find your friends and people you like to hang out with so you can do stuff on weekends.      Try to have fun while life is easy and before school work gets hard in high school. High school work is hard and I only been in it for a month. Listen to your mommy and daddy so you don't get in big big trouble! But, for the most part have fun.

Mint Snowball

One of the narratives we read in class was Mint Snowball by Naomi Shibab Nye. It was about her great grandfathers mint snowball recipe that was a prized possession throughout her family's existence for the past few generations. Throughout the book, I noticed how skilled Naomi is with description. For example, "The Mint Snowball tasted like winter." This helps the readers relate to her the best and almost puts us in her shoes.      At the end of the book, Naomi uses rhetorical questions in a great way. She uses them as a relation to her life and the snowball. It kinda serves as a cliff hanger for the reader and leaves us wondering. That is a good feature to her narrative.

Hurricane Katrina Response

In my years of living in Louisiana, I have of course heard all about Hurricane Katrina. I knew it was horrible and affected New Orleans in a big way. But, this article taught me so much more. Hurricane Katrina was a very dangerous and effective hurricane. It accounted for 100 billion dollars in damage and left a lot of innocent people to either die, evacuate, or stay at home and wait it out. Thousands of people were effected and desperate for shelter, food, and water. Although we came together as a community to help, the government wasn't quite prepared...      This is the part I did not know. At the time, George W. Bush was president. Him and the government didn't understand how bad this hurricane was. It took days for FEMA to respond and help our people. Hopefully we have learned from this hurricane to always be prepared for any natural disaster.

Leviathan by Scott Westerfeld

I am currently reading Leviathan by Scott Westerfeld. The book is about a prince named Alek who is running from his own people with only a small group of protection. The other main character is a girl named Deryn who is thrown on an airship with Alek where they fight side by side. The airship is called Leviathan. In the book, I have noticed some of the author's skills that we learned about in class.      The story is told from a 1st person point of view by the characters, which grabs my attention and makes the story more enjoyable. The book is in a very orderly structure. It mainly starts out with introducing Alek and Deryn, talking about their backstory and situations. I am currently reading the bulk, or action-filled part of the story. The first person point of view also makes the book more emotional for me, making me feel like I am in the book. Overall the author uses his writing skills very well.
